NSS
National Service Scheme (NSS )
Message from Program Officer of NSS UNIT – 1
Dr. Sulochana Kumari Das
The aim of human life is to rise above personal interest irrespective of caste, creed, religion, and the linguistic jingoism. The philanthropy and the holistic development of the society, nay the nation, has been on the topmost priority of the National Service Scheme (NSS). The welfare of the world and its people is the foremost objective of humanity. The NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) moves us towards the attainment of this goal. The Union Education Minister, Dr. V.K.R.V. Rao launched the NSS program on 24 September 1969. This proclamation included the thirty-seven (37) universities covering all States and the Union territories. He simultaneously requested the Chief Ministers of States for their cooperation and help. It was appropriate that the program started during the Gandhi Centenary Year as it was Gandhiji who inspired the Indian youth to participate in the movement for India’s independence and the social uplift of the downtrodden of our country.
The main objective of NSS is to orient the students towards the community service. The motto of the National Service Scheme is ‘NOT ME BUT YOU’.
This reflects the essence of the democratic living and upholds the need for the selfless service and appreciation of the other, respecting the individual’s point of view. This encompasses and upholds the well-being of the masses.
It is a matter of great joy and pride for us that after a long gap, the National Service Scheme (NSS) had its brilliant beginning this year for the right leadership of the Head of the Institution. I, Dr. Sulochana Kumari Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, feel extremely proud that I have been selected as NSS Program Officer.
We pledge to bring forth to fruition the basic ideas and ideals of the NSS with full dedication and devotion.
